Sassy was a rescued kitten way back when the girls were still in high school. The bus didn't come back our road, so I had to go two miles to the hard top road to meet the bus everyday.
One day in late September, I was running late, and when I topped over the last hill, I saw Becky stuffing something in her pocket. When I stopped the car, I said "whatever it is, it better not be breathing". Just then Becky pulled out this tiny little kitten. She was covered in mud, her little nose was frost bitten and she looked so hungry.
My heart immediately melted and it has been love ever since. When the girls left home, they felt it would be too tramatic to take Sassy away from the life she had always known. So she sleeps on my shoulder everynight, just like she did way back then.
