Evans Knob CSA
Reid and I have grown much of our own food over the past twenty years. We would like to offer to you some of the same fresh bounty that we have the joy of producing.
We have nearly 3 acres dedicated to vegetable production, we grow much like the French do with their intensive planting. If we did not pay so much attention to the soil conditions we would not be able to accomplish what we do.
We are planning the CSA deliveries to go for 18 weeks for the 2012 season. The projected first delivery date is June 1st and the last September 28.
As a "shareholder" you will receive a basket of fresh yummy produce each week. Much of the harvesting is done on the day of delivery. You can't get much fresher than that. Whatever is harvested that day will be divided up between the number of shareholders that will be picking up that day. It is vitally important that you let us know 24 hours in advance if you will not be able to make the pick up. That will ensure that nothing goes to waste.
You need to understand that even though we are planning on growing certain crops, unforeseen disasters do happen. For instance an early cold snap, drought, or bugs can wipe out nearly an entire crop for the season. While we take every possible precaution to prevent this, mother nature is out of our control. Many times she will make up for one crop failure with a truly abundant harvest elsewhere. Being a shareholder means accepting the risk and supporting us as your farmers.
We want you to be able to put a face with the meal on your table. Not some unknown conglomerate operation, or a supermarket chain. Our farm is always open to visitors, in fact, we encourage you to visit. We would like to be given the chance to earn your trust. Reid and I want you to feel that you are a part of the farm as well. Just give us a call and set up an appointment.
We offer half shares as well as full shares. Whole shares pick up every week, while half shares pick up every other week. We will set up a schedule just before the deliveries begin. We will meet on Tuesdays at the St. Pauls Luthren Church on Baldwin ST. in Morgantown. Our second site will be at Chestnut Ridge Church, and possibly a 3rd site near the Pierpont area.
You will need to bring your own shopping bags, or coolers to the delivery site, we will have everything already weighed out for you and packaged. Farmer Kathy or someone from Evans Knob will guide you through what we have that day, and what your share is.
This year we are expanding our CSA to 30 shares. The slots are open first to returning shareholders and any empty spaces will then be filled on a first come first serve basis. You will need to fill out the questionnaire and registration, return it with a deposit of $100. The first payment is due by the same day the following month. The prices for the 2012 season are $545 for a full share and $300.00 for a half share. The balance will be due April 15th. We will not accept any new shareholders after May 1st.
We often share recipes from other shareholders and from customers at the Farmers Market. We like to offer unusual veggies, some have become favorites of our shareholders. They often tell us that had we not included it in the share, they likely would not have tried it. The recipes come in handy for those.
I am sure you will have more questions. Please feel free to contact us, we would love to hear from you.
